It is the driving force behind their often surprising designs and proposals for another, 'utopian' and 'unadapted' town, for a different way of living (together). The most recent developments in this process (the 18.51 metre long model of the city fragment is the absolute eye-catcher) and specific proposals for a different Antwerp are the two focal points of this exhibition.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erom the late Sixties, the terrain of the visual arts became the launch pad in Deleu's search for a different urban development, in particular one that would be critical, sociological and ecological. In other words: urbanism that would be a 'worthy' alternative to the existing situations.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eFrom 1995, together with his agency T.O.P. office (Turn On Planning), he has been working on \"The Unadapted City\", a conceptual urban development study. Since living on this planet is becoming a problem due to lack of room, the urban space will be used in a more polyvalent way, according to Deleu. Every town is unadapted. Therefore, on the basis of a calculation of the required comfort equipment and housing facilities, T.O.P. office presents an unadapted spatial organisation, which however complies with invisible arrangement principles on a macro scale. Deleu and T.O.P. office are convinced that a town on a large scale is feasible, but has to offer the greatest possible freedom to individual initiatives at the micro level. Therefore the proposed volumes, which are the result of a study of the necessary surface and infrastructure, are decoupled from their programme before the town is occupied. For example, an adequate number of cinemas have been planned, but they can also be used as sports hall, mushroom farm or accommodation for hamadryas baboons.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003e“The Unadapted City” is developing in consecutive stages. After the previously designed districts “Brikabrak” (1998), “Dinkytown” (1998-99) and “Octopus” (1999), “Vipcity” is the fourth step: a large development with a spine length of 7.5 km for 38,000 inhabitants in detached houses.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eThe model of a fragment of this district, “Vipcity – The Nautical Mile”, is now presented to the public for the first time. The length of the city fragment presented here to scale is that of a nautical mile: a meridian minute or 1851 metres. The 1:100 scale model is therefore 18.51 metres long. Met andere woorden: een stedenbouwkunde die een ‘waardig’ alternatief voor de bestaande toestanden zou zijn.\u003cbr\u003eSinds 1995 werkt hij, samen met zijn bureau T.O.P. office (Turn On Planning), aan “De Onaangepaste Stad”, een ontwerpmatige stedenbouwkundige studie. Omdat wonen op aarde wegens plaatsgebrek problematisch wordt, zal de stedelijke ruimte, volgens Deleu, meer polyvalent worden gebruikt. Elke stad is onaangepast. Daarom stelt T.O.P. office, op basis van een becijfering van de nodige comfortuitrusting en woongelegenheid, een onaangepaste ruimtelijke organisatie voor, die echter gehoorzaamt aan onzichtbare ordeningsprincipes op macrovlak. Deleu en T.O.P. office zijn ervan overtuigd dat een stad op grote schaal maakbaar is, maar op kleine schaal de grootst mogelijke vrijheid voor individuele initiatieven moet bieden. Daarom worden de voorgestelde volumes, die het resultaat zijn van een studie van de nodige ruimte en infrastructuur, voor de ingebruikname van de stad losgekoppeld van hun programma. Er zijn bijvoorbeeld genoeg bioscopen voorzien, maar ze kunnen ook gebruikt worden als sportzaal, champignonkwekerij of verblijf voor mantelbavianen.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003e“De Onaangepaste Stad” komt tot stand in opeenvolgende fases. Na de eerder ontworpen wijken “Brikabrak” (1998), “Dinkytown” (1998-99) en “Octopus” (1999), is “Vipcity” de vierde etappe: een grote verkaveling voor 38.000 inwoners in vrijstaande woningen met een 7,5 km lange stadsas.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eDe maquette van een fragment van deze wijk, “Vipcity - De Zeemijl”, wordt nu voor het eerst aan het publiek gepresenteerd. De lengte van het stadsfragment dat hier op schaal wordt voorgesteld is die van een zeemijl: een meridiaanminuut of 1851 meter. De maquette op schaal 1/100 is dus 18,51 meter lang. “Vipcity - De Zeemijl” bevat naast zes kantoorgebouwen ook de nodige ruimte en infrastructuur voor horeca, sport en amusement, sociale voorzieningen, transport enz. Etant donné qu’habiter sur la terre devient problématique vu le manque de place, l’espace urbain, selon Deleu, sera utilisé de façon plus polyvalente. Chaque ville est inadaptée. Dès lors, T.O.P. office propose, sur la base d’un calcul des installations de confort et des lieux de vie nécessaires, une organisation inadaptée de l’espace, qui obéit en fait à des principes de disposition invisibles en termes macro. Deleu et T.O.P. Office sont convaincus qu’une ville est faisable à grande échelle, mais qu’elle doit offrir, à petite échelle, la plus grande liberté possible pour les initiatives individuelles. Pour cette raison, les volumes proposés pour la mise en service de la ville et qui sont le résultat d’une étude de l’espace et de l’infrastructure nécessaires, sont désynchronisés de leur programme. Il y a par exemple assez de cinémas prévus mais on peut aussi les utiliser comme salles de sport ou pour la culture des champignons ou comme lieu de séjour pour des babouins mandrills.\u003cbr\u003e“La cité inadaptée” se crée par phases successives. A l’occasion de “VALUES”, le film sera projeté dans sa version intégrale.
