From 2010 to 2014, HOTEL CHARLEROI has invited more than 100 artists for informal residencies in Charleroi and organised annual exhibitions in public or semi-public space that managed to bring together local and international audiences.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eHOTEL CHARLEROI has reinvented its field of research each year, while finding new emblematic locations within the city and using them as artistic labs to address critical statements on the city\u0026rsquo;s post-industrial development strategies. Among other projects, LE CHANT DES POSSIBLES parasitized numerous non-places around the city\u0026rsquo;s ring road (2011), VILLE EN AB\u0026Icirc;ME occupied the 60.000m\u003csup\u003e2\u003c/sup\u003e of the derelict Congress Hall \u0026ldquo;Palais des Expositions\u0026rdquo; (2012) and LA FORCE DU CHANGEMENT proposed a Winter School for a weekend on the construction site of a huge shopping mall in the old city centre (2014).\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: justify;\"\u003eM HKA\u0026rsquo;s invitation to take part in the LODGERS programme allows HOTEL CHARLEROI to reflect on its legacy, including five years of intense activity followed by a two-year break. The residency brings up questions, such as: what remains? Can the site-specific, often performative approach of artistic actions that took place in Charleroi be transferred to a museum? Does an institutional context offer the right conditions to reflect on a project that was embedded within the raw circumstances of the public space? Which parts of the artistic analysis of Charleroi\u0026rsquo;s societal context remain relevant when you remove Charleroi?\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe continuous exposure to these questions made the HOTEL CHARLEROI artists propose the\u003cstrong\u003e re-enactment of a selection of works\u003c/strong\u003e that occurred in Charleroi from 2010 to 2014. LA FORCE DU CHANGEMENT (\u0026#39;de kracht van de verandering\u0026#39;) stelde gedurende \u0026eacute;\u0026eacute;n weekend een Winterschool voor op de bouwsite van een reusachtig winkelcentrum in het oude centrum van de stad (2014).\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eDe uitnodiging van het M HKA om deel te nemen aan het LODGERS-programma biedt HOTEL CHARLEROI de mogelijkheid om te reflecteren op de erfenis van zowel de vijf jaren intensieve activiteit als op de tweejarige onderbreking. Tijdens de residentie worden vragen gesteld, zoals: wat blijft? Is het mogelijk om de site-specifieke, vaak performatieve aanpak van artistieke acties die plaatsvonden in Charleroi te vertalen naar een museale context? Biedt een institutionele context de juiste voorwaarden om te reflecteren over een project dat ingebed was in de ruwe omstandigheden van een openbare ruimte? Welke onderdelen van de artistieke analyse van de sociale context van Charleroi blijven relevant als je niet in Charleroi bent?\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eDe voortdurende blootstelling aan deze vragen zette de HOTEL CHARLEROI-kunstenaars aan tot het plannen van een \u003cstrong\u003eheropvoering van enkele werken\u003c/strong\u003e die plaatsvonden in Charleroi tussen 2010 en 2014. De oorspronkelijke acties zullen gepresenteerd worden aan de hand van een traditionele documentatieopstelling in de LODGERS-ruimte.
