The artworks will be given on long-term loan to the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp (M HKA), which will develop the collection together with the city. This art scene has also served as a basis for international developments, through commercial galleries and world-class public initiatives. In the past, this has only led to the creation of patrimony in a very fragmentary manner. This is why the city of Antwerp is now starting with the development of a city collection. Deze kunstscène is eveneens een basis geweest voor internationale ontwikkelingen, via commerciële galerieën en publieke initiatieven van wereldniveau. In het verleden vertaalde dit zich slechts zeer fragmentair in patrimoniumopbouw. Daarom start de stad Antwerpen nu met de uitbouw van een stadscollectie. Ze wil er ook de aandacht op vestigen hoe de recente internationale kunstontwikkelingen in Antwerpen een voedingsbodem hebben gevonden en dit tot vandaag blijven doen. Zo bestaat de intentie om buitenlandse kunstenaars aan te kopen als dat sleutelkunstenaars zijn voor galerieën in Antwerpen vandaag. Tegelijk beseft de stad dat haar eigen kunstenaars deel zijn van dat internationale beeld. Ook daar wil \u003ci\u003eDe Stadscollectie\u003c/i\u003e niet enkel investeren in gevestigde namen, maar net zo goed in het werk van opkomend talent, en voor dit eerste jaar wordt dit zelfs de voornaamste focus – die steun\u003ci\u003e is nu immers nog urgenter dan anders.\u003c/i\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003eSchepen Nabilla Ait Daoud: \u003ci\u003e\"Met het nieuwe opzet van een Stadscollectie beeldende kunst hebben we een beleidsinstrument waarmee we in één klap verschillende doelstellingen realiseren. Om te beginnen is het natuurlijk een steun aan het M HKA, dat in het vooruitzicht van de nieuwbouw zijn verzameling verder wil versterken. Tegelijkertijd verhelpen we echter aan een eigen tekort. Antwerpen heeft een fenomenale beeldende kunstscène waar veel internationale topkunstenaars landen. In het verleden werd dat spijtig genoeg amper vertaald in patrimonium. Daar willen we nu een inhaalbeweging maken. Die investering zal ook de galerijen en publieke initiatieven waarderen en ondersteunen die hedendaagse kunst in Antwerpen publiek maken, door hun engagementen een duurzame plaats te geven. En aankopen zijn natuurlijk een steun aan kunstenaars, zowel financieel als in termen van waardering. Daarom willen we ook gericht jongere kunstenaars opnemen. Par le passé, cela ne s’est cependant traduit que de manière très fragmentaire en une construction patrimoniale. Voilà pourquoi la Ville d’Anvers souhaite à présent entamer la constitution d’une collection municipale. La collection se développera petit à petit au fil des années, de sorte qu’y être intégré constituera en soi un signe de reconnaissance.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003e\u003ci\u003eLa collection municipale\u003c/i\u003e sera plus qu’une collection d’artistes du cru. Elle a aussi pour objectif de présenter la manière dont les récentes évolutions artistiques internationales ont toujours trouvé un terreau fertile à Anvers et continuent à le trouver à ce jour. Ainsi, il y a également l’intention d’acquérir des œuvres d’artistes étrangers dans la mesure où il s’agit d’artistes déterminants pour des galeries anversoises. Parallèlement, la ville se rend très bien compte que ses propres artistes font partie de cette image internationale. Là aussi, \u003ci\u003ela collection municipale\u003c/i\u003e ne souhaite pas uniquement investir dans des valeurs confirmées, mais tout autant dans des œuvres d’artistes émergents. Et la première année, l’attention se portera principalement sur ces artistes, car ils ont plus que jamais besoin de soutien.\u003cbr\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp style=\"text-align:justify;\"\u003eL’échevine de la Culture, Nabilla Ait Daoud : « Avec le nouveau projet de collection municipale d’arts plastiques, nous disposons d’un instrument politique avec lequel nous pouvons réaliser différents objectifs à la fois. Pour commencer, il y a bien entendu le soutien au M HKA, qui souhaite consolider sa collection en perspective de la construction de son nouveau lieu. Anvers dispose d’une scène artistique phénoménale où atterrissent bon nombre d’éminents artistes internationaux. Par le passé, cela s’est malheureusement à peine traduit en patrimoine. Nous souhaitons à présent réaliser une opération de rattrapage. Cet investissement reconnaîtra et soutiendra également les galeries et les initiatives publiques qui offrent à l’art contemporain une visibilité publique à Anvers en donnant une place durable à leurs engagements. Et les acquisitions représenteront bien entendu un soutien pour les artistes, tant sur le plan financier qu’en matière de reconnaissance. C’est pour cela que nous souhaitons acquérir des œuvres de jeunes artistes.
