It is at this event that I.C.C. director Flor Bex and James Lee Byars first met. From this day on they stayed in contact and wrote to each other on a regular basis, which resulted in a remarkable collaboration and friendship until Byars\u0026#39; death in 1997. The exhibition itself consisted out of several \u0026quot;actions\u0026quot; by Byars to be seen during his stay at the gallery. The opening was on the 18th of April and started with the performance *75 in a Hat*, a red piece of fabric that could be worn by 75 people at the same time. From the 25th of April until the first of May, people could see Byars perform *A Pink Silk Airplane for 100*. This was a pink coloured, silk cloth with 100 \u0026#39;holes\u0026#39; where people could put their heads through. Byars instructed the visitors, who became active participants, to sit down, with their knees up, wrapping their arms around their knees, so that they would appear \u0026quot;very round\u0026quot;. For *1000 Minutes of Attention or 1/2 An Autobiography of James Lee Byars* the artist wrote half of his autobiography, and presented the work at the gallery which was painted entirely pink for the occasion. The visitors, who had to take off their shoes, could go and see Byars behind an opening in the wall, where he entrusted them with a few lines of his writings. After the exhibition a book was made out of the 200 pages the artist had written on. There is a documentary directed by Jef Cornelis called *James Lee Byars: een Amerikaans kunstenaar* about Byars\u0026#39; activities at the Wide White Space Gallery in 1969. Voor *1000 Minutes of Attention or 1/2 An Autobiography of James Lee Byars* schreef de kunstenaar zijn eigen autobiografie. In de Wide White Space Gallery, die voor deze gelegenheid helemaal roze geschilderd was, bevond zich een \u0026quot;gat\u0026quot; in de muur, waarachter Byars zich bevond. De bezoekers, die verplicht waren hun schoenen uit te doen, konden zich naar de muur begeven, waar Byars hen vervolgens enkele passages uit zijn autobiografie toevertrouwde. Na de tentoonstelling werden de 200 pagina\u0026#39;s waarop hij geschreven had gebundeld tot een boek.
