But you can also see him as an artist who advanced the canon of painting, as demonstrated in Antwerp's Royal Museum five years ago. The M HKA opts for a third approach: Cox as an artist who remains contemporary. We feel that his artistic merit deserves still more attention.\"\u003c/i\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn order to make the best choice from Adriaan Raemdonck's generous offer, we invited two artists to join with the museum in making the final decision: painter\u0026nbsp;Koen van den Broek\u003cstrong\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u003c/strong\u003eand performance artist \u003ca href=\"http://ensembles.mhka.be/actors/vaast-colson\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eVaast Colson\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/a\u003e. The idea was not to acquire the greatest number of works for the M HKA, but rather to together determine what would be the best angle of approach. Here was the question: which ensemble of Jan Cox's works should best be preserved in the public domain?\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe ultimate selection mainly included works from Cox's later oeuvre, ones we may describe as 'source works' or 'pilot works'. These are pieces wherein the artists embarks upon an adventure, acute works that still remain fresh to this day. There are paintings here, of course, but also a large number of sculptures that Jan Cox produced towards the end of his life. Want we vinden zijn artistieke waarde nog te weinig belicht.”\u003c/i\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOm uit het genereuze aanbod van Adriaan Raemdonck de juiste keuzes te maken, nodigden we twee kunstenaars uit om samen met het museum en Adriaan Raemdonck de finale beslissing te nemen: schilder\u0026nbsp;Koen van den Broek\u0026nbsp;en performancekunstenaar\u003cstrong\u003e \u003c/strong\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://ensembles.mhka.be/actors/vaast-colson\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eVaast Colson\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/a\u003e. Het ging er immers niet om om zo veel mogelijk werken naar het M HKA te halen, maar om samen te kijken wat de beste invalshoek is. Hier was de vraag: welk ensemble van Jan Cox zou best in publiek domein bewaard blijven?\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDe uiteindelijke selectie bevat voornamelijk werken uit Cox’ latere oeuvre die men als ‘bronwerken’ of ‘pilootwerken’ zou kunnen omschrijven. Het zijn werken waarin de kunstenaar zelf op avontuur gaat, scherpe werken die ook vandaag nog heel fris blijven. Er zijn schilderijen bij, maar ook een groot aantal sculpturen die Jan Cox op het einde van zijn leven maakte, samen met bijzondere tekeningen en archiefmateriaal.\u0026nbsp;\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSinds zondag 06.04.2014 exposeerde het M HKA in\u0026nbsp;\u003cstrong\u003eINBOX\u0026nbsp;\u003c/strong\u003egedurende een maand de selectie van Koen van den Broek. Il l’avait fait pour faire une déclaration sur l’intérêt des institutions publiques.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJan Cox était le cofondateur de Jeune Peinture Belge, et la figure-clé internationale lors de la création de la galerie anversoise De Zwarte Panter.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAfin de faire de bons choix parmi l’offre généreuse de Adriaan Raemdonck, nous avons invité deux artistes à aider le musée et Adriaan Raemdonck à faire une sélection: le peintre \u003cstrong\u003eKoen van den Broek \u003c/strong\u003eet l’artiste performance Vaast Colson. La question qui se posait dans ce cadre était de savoir quel ensemble de Jan Cox devrait-on de préférence garder dans un domaine public\u0026nbsp;?\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eLa sélection finale comprenait surtout des œuvres de l’œuvre ancien de Cox que nous pourrions décrire comme \u003ci\u003e‘des œuvres sources’\u003c/i\u003e ou \u003ci\u003e‘des œuvres pilotes’.\u003c/i\u003e Il s’agit d’œuvres dans lesquelles l’artiste cherche l’aventure, des œuvres nettes qui sont toujours très pures à l’heure actuelle. La sélection comprenait des peintures, mais également bon nombre de sculptures que Jan Cox a faites à la fin de sa vie, et des dessins spéciaux et du matériel d’archives.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA partir du 06.04.2014, le M HKA a montré dans \u003cstrong\u003eINBOX\u003c/strong\u003e durant un mois la sélection de Koen van den Broek.
