That's also why I seriously question society, the civilisation in which we live. In the face of the manipulation and exploitation of the Third World, our society sometimes tends towards the colonial and is certainly laden with capitalism. That's why I illustrate these phenomena, but now as a sort of archaeology of the era.\"*\r\n\r\n\r\nBesides these artists from France, Spain and the United States, who testify to Antwerp’s role as an international hub and meeting place at that time, the M HKA also chose two artists from Belgium. \r\nThe first is [GUILLAUME BIJL](http://ensembles.mhka.be/actors/guillaume-bijl). \r\n\r\nGuillaume Bijl is generally considered a key artist on the Belgian art scene of the 1980s, with installations that graft reality onto the art world. He distinguishes between ['Transformation-Installations'](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/transformatie-installaties-transformation-installations), which transform reality into non-reality, and ['Situation-Installations'](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/situatie-installaties-situation-installations), which transform non-reality into reality, as well as more sculptural ['Compositions or Compositions Trouvées'](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/composities-compositions-trouvees-compositions-compositions-trouvees) that are contemporary still-lifes and the 'Sorry’s' that are a form of absurd poetry. \r\n\r\nThe M HKA has an extensive ensemble of several of his major installations including the first one he ever created, [*Autorijschool Z (Driving School Z)*](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/167) and [*TV-Quiz Decor*](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/3119), which was the cover for the Mercatorfonds publication on contemporary art in Belgium. \r\n\r\nIt also has the remainder of the legendary [*Chaussures ICéCé*](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/5217), the second installation he ever made. In the present exhibition drawn from the collection, the emphasis is on his conceptual work from the ICC period. It portrays a surprising, poetic Bijl. This collection presentation includes the first public overview of this earlier work. De eerste daarvan is [GUILLAUME BIJL](http://ensembles.mhka.be/actors/guillaume-bijl). \r\n\r\nGuillaume Bijl wordt normaal gezien als een sleutelkunstenaar in de Belgische kunstscène van de jaren 1980, met installaties die de werkelijkheid enten in de kunstwereld. Zelf onderscheidt hij daarbij [‘Transformatie-Installaties’](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/transformatie-installaties-transformation-installations) die een realiteit veranderen in een niet-realiteit, [‘Situatie –Installaties’](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/situatie-installaties-situation-installations) die een niet-realiteit veranderen  in de realiteit, de meer sculpturale [‘Composities of Compositions Trouvées’](http://ensembles.mhka.be/ensembles/composities-compositions-trouvees-compositions-compositions-trouvees) die hedendaagse stillevens zijn, en de ‘Sorries’ die een vorm zijn van absurde poëzie. \r\n\r\nVan hem heeft het M HKA een uitgebreid ensemble met verschillende van zijn belangrijke installaties, waaronder de allereerste die hij ooit maakte, [‘Autorijschool Z’](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/167) en het [‘TV-Quiz Decor’](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/3119), dat de cover was van het Mercatorfondsboek over hedendaagse kunst in België. \r\n\r\nHet heeft ook de herinnering aan het legendarische [*Chaussures ICéCé*](http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/5217), de tweede installatie die hij ooit maakte. In de huidige collectietentoonstelling wordt ditmaal de nadruk gelegd op zijn conceptueel werk uit de ICC-tijd. Het is een verrassende, poëtische Bijl die hier aan het licht komt. Van dit vroegere werk wordt in deze collectiepresentatie voor het eerst publiek een overzicht getoond. Le musée dispose aussi de documentation illustrant l’œuvre légendaire Chaussures ICéCé, sa deuxième installation.\r\n\r\nEn se focalisant sur l’œuvre conceptuelle de l’artiste à l’époque de l’ICC, la présentation met en lumière un Guillaume Bijl poétique et surprenant. Cette présentation de collection offre pour la première fois au public un aperçu sélectif de l’œuvre des débuts de l’artiste. Voilà qui étend l’œuvre de manière fondamentale et met en évidence à quel point Bijl est marqué par le climat des années 70.
