The M HKA has been given the collection of the 'Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg/De Vleeshal' (The Middelburg Visual Arts Foundation / The Meat Hall) on long-term loan. From June 4, works from the two collections will be exhibited together for the first time. For many works from the Middelburg collection it is even the first time since their acquisition that they can be viewed by the public.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the early 1990s, the plan for a museum for modern and contemporary art developed in the town of Middelburg. From 1994, the Stichting Beeldende Kunst Middelburg / De Vleeshal started building a collection for that new museum. The acquisition policy was carried out in alternation with the presentations in the Vleeshal, so that the collection also constitutes a kind of memory of the exhibition programme. So far, around two hundred works have been acquired, but the plans for a museum have meanwhile been put on hold.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eTherefore, in Middelburg there was a collection without space to exhibit it. In Antwerp there was a related collection to which much space is devoted, but with a limited acquisition budget. This inspired the two partners to bring together the two collections temporarily in the M HKA. In this way, the Middelburg collection is opened up to the public and the M HKA collection is reinforced. Because of the combination, various works by certain artists can now be exhibited together, so that the viewer gains more insight into their oeuvre. In addition, all this is enriched with new artists, whose work the M HKA had wanted to buy but could never afford. Het aankoopbeleid werd in wisselwerking met de presentaties in de Vleeshal gevoerd, zodat de collectie ook een soort geheugen van het tentoonstellingsprogramma vormt. Een tweehonderdtal werken is tot nu toe verworven, maar ondertussen zijn de plannen voor een museum in de koelkast beland.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eIn Middelburg was er dus een collectie zonder ruimte om ze te tonen. In Antwerpen was er een verwante collectie waaraan veel ruimte wordt gegeven, maar met een beperkt aankoopbudget. Dat inspireerde de twee partners om de collecties tijdelijk samen te voegen in het M HKA. De Middelburg-collectie wordt op die manier ontsloten voor het publiek en de M HKA-collectie wordt versterkt. Door de combinatie kunnen nu van bepaalde kunstenaars verschillende werken samen worden getoond, zodat de toeschouwer meer inzicht krijgt in hun oeuvre. Daarnaast wordt het geheel verrijkt met nieuwe kunstenaars, van wie het M HKA wel werk had willen kopen, maar dat nooit heeft kunnen betalen. Il faut en effet savoir que le M HKA a reçu, à titre de prêt à long terme, la collection de la Fondation pour les Arts plastiques de Middelburg/De Vleeshal (NL) et qu’à partir du 4 juin, des œuvres de ces deux collections seront pour la première fois exposées conjointement. Il s’agit même d’une double première, car de nombreuses œuvres de la collection de Middelburg n’ont jamais été présentées au public depuis leur acquisition.\u003c/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAu début des années quatre-vingt-dix, la municipalité de Middelburg conçoit le plan de bâtir un musée d’art moderne et contemporain. Dans ce but, la Fondation pour les Arts plastiques de Middelburg/De Vleeshal amorce en 1994 la constitution d’une collection. La politique d’acquisition est menée en interaction avec les expositions au Vleeshal afin que la collection constitue également une mémoire du programme de la fondation. Actuellement la collection compte quelque deux cents œuvres, mais entre-temps le projet de musée a été renvoyé aux calendes grecques.\u0026nbsp;\u003cbr\u003eMiddelburg possède donc une collection mais pas de lieu pour l’exposer. Parallèlement, le musée d’art contemporain anversois, dont la collection présente des affinités avec celle de Middelburg, dispose de grands espaces d’exposition mais d’un budget d’acquisition limité. Cette situation a incité les deux partenaires à associer temporairement leurs collections : la collection néerlandaise peut ainsi être dévoilée au public et la collection anversoise se voit consolidée. Grâce à cette association, les visiteurs pourront voir plusieurs œuvres de certains artistes et se faire ainsi une meilleure idée de leur démarche. En outre, la totalité s’enrichit d’œuvres d’artistes dont le M HKA aurait aimé acquérir des pièces, mais pour lesquelles il n’a pas obtenu les budgets.
