Lublin spent many years in Paris, where she was able to further immerse herself in the Surrealist legacy, the defining pedagogical experience of her art career; growing up in Buenos Aires, she must surely have been aware of Marcel Duchamp\u0026rsquo;s short but much-publicized sojourn in the Argentine capital. Sometime in the mid-seventies, Lublin started to make regular trips to Antwerp to partake in ICC\u0026rsquo;s performance art program, and on one of these visits she exhibited a piece of white cloth containing a questionnaire made up of questions such as \u003cem\u003eWhat is art?\u003c/em\u003e, wrapped around the statue of Rubens on Antwerp\u0026rsquo;s Groenplaats. This work was first shown again in the historical survey show \u0026ldquo;Dear ICC\u0026rdquo; in 2004, alongside a similar questionnaire-based work by Belgian artist \u003ca href=\"http://ensembles.mhka.be/items/1094\"\u003eDani\u0026euml;l Dewaele\u003c/a\u003e.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n"},{"locale":"nl","short_description":"","description":"\u003cp\u003eDe Argentijnse conceptuele kunstenares\u003cstrong\u003e L\u0026eacute;a Lublin\u003c/strong\u003e maakte deel uit van een contingent Latijns-Amerikaanse cultuurproducenten en intellectuelen die in de jaren zestig en zeventig de politieke instabiliteit van hun respectieve landen inruilden voor de meer stimulerende artistieke en culturele milieus van Europese metropolen als Londen en Parijs. In Parijs kon Lublin zich daarenboven verder verdiepen in de voor haar belangrijke geschiedenis van het surrealisme \u0026ndash; de invloed van Marcel Duchamp (die in de periode 1917-1918 zelf even in Buenos Aires had gewoond) is sterk merkbaar in al haar werk. In de loop van de jaren zeventig zakte Lublin af naar Antwerpen om er in het kader van een reeks happenings in het ICC een performance te realiseren rond haar \u0026lsquo;vragenlijst\u0026rsquo; \u003cem\u003eWat is kunst ?\u003c/em\u003e\u0026nbsp;\u0026ndash; een doek in eenvoudige katoen waarop zevenentwintig vragen staan afgedrukt die op retorische toon naar het wezen en nut van de kunst hengelen.
