Aside from his constructivist work with strong simplification of forms and bright colors, he also makes stage designs that are allied to art nouveau.  In 1926 he provokes a scandal by decorating the façade of a shoe store with a dynamic composition of bright color expanses which, for that matter, was the sole intervention upon Antwerp’s urban decor by an abstract painter.  Shortly thereafter, he joins a group of traditional artists, moves to the hamlet of Kalmthout in 1935, his paintings then becoming devoted to heather-landscapes."},{"locale":"nl","short_description":"","description":"Jan Kiemeneij wordt in 1921 lid van de kring Moderne Kunst van Jozef Peeters. Naast zijn constructief werk met sterk vereenvoudigde vormen en felle kleuren, maakt hij ook decorontwerpen die aanleunen bij de art nouveau. In dit werk bereikt hij met geometrische vormen en de gebogen lijn van de Jugendstil een decoratief resultaat. In 1926 verwekt hij schandaal door de gevel van een schoenwinkel te decoreren met een dynamische compositie van felle kleurvlakken, overigens de enige ingreep in het stedelijke decor in Antwerpen door een abstracte schilder.
